Vomo Island Resort & Spa, managed by Sofitel

The romantic tropical Vomo Island Resort is managed by Sofitel. The island, with its white sandy beaches encircled by a blue lagoon and coral reef is located just south of Fiji's well-known Yasawa group of islands, and a short 15 minute flight away from Nadi International Airport on Fiji's main island of Viti Levu.

The resort is a secluded hideaway, with less than 30 villas, and perfect for a vacation retreat, or as a Fiji honeymoon or wedding destination. Most of the villas are beachfront, some are hillside with spectacular views, and there is also a 2-bedroom villa (Royal Deluxe Villa).

Rates include meals (excluding picnics), bottle of wine on arrival, 2 Vomo Island sulus, 2 bottles of Fiji water daily, laundry, tropical fruit, all non-motorised water sports, tennis court, and a 9 hold par 3 golf course. Vomo Island is a perfect setting for a tropical Fiji Spa !

The Fiji Spa at Vomo Island Resort

Vomo Resort has designed and constructed a dedicated bure for its Fiji resort spa that is surrounded by lush, tropical gardens through which small winding trails lead to the paradise setting. The restful design perfectly complements the relaxing, therapeutic spa treatments available. Vomo Island Resort has a Senikai Spa. 'Senikai' is the Fijian word for flower and for centuries the 'Maramas' (ladies) of the villages in Fiji have used the fragrant and beautiful Fiji flowers to beautify and heal.

Senikai Spas use the 'Essence of Viti' products, a special range that uses the tropical essences of frangipani, coconut and papaya to rejuvenate your body, mind and soul. Vomo Island Resort's spa, directed by one of Australia's highly-qualified Beauty Therapists, is proud to use these high-quality products to support it's leading edge spa therapy techniques.

Spa Treatments

Vomo normally offers individual assessments prior to treatments, to ensure you receive the perfect spa solution for you. There are several different treatments for the face, many treatments for the body and additional options for honeymoon couples. They also offer complete relaxation packages lasting several days, for those seeking the ultimate tropical Fijian spa treatment - to pamper the body and relax the mind and soul.

Spa Treatments

Maravu offers Pure Fiji / Reniu products with a fully trained spa therapist to pamper you with a range of special spa treatments, including the Fiji Stone Body Therapy. This is followed by a warm stone massage with Fijian coconut oil gently massaged into the skin and muscles for a full body massage. Honeymoon couples may enjoy Maravu's "Romancing the Islands" massage for two; where you can enjoy the privacy of a romantic massage suite made for two, each with your own therapist.

TIES promotes ecotourism, which is defined as "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people," by:

  • Creating an international network of individuals, institutions and the tourism industry;
  • Educating tourists and tourism professionals; and
  • Influencing the tourism industry, public institutions and donors to integrate the principles of ecotourism into their operations and policies.

The International Ecotourism Society "Uniting conservation, communities and sustainable travel, TIES promotes responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people."

  • Minimize impact.
  • Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect.
  • Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts.
  • Provide direct financial benefits for conservation.
  • Provide financial benefits and empowerment for local people.
  • Raise sensitivity to host countries' political, environmental, and social climate.
"At Matava, we are of course both happy and proud to be a Resort member of TIES, the world's oldest and largest international ecotourism association." said Matava Director, Mr Richard Akhtar.

"We also see this as a great step forward and opportunity for all Fiji resorts, both on Kadavu and in the Fiji Islands, to move forward in their standards to achieve truly world class service and capabilities required for this membership level and to do it in the true spirit of ecotourism."

Matava - Fiji's Premier Eco-Adventure Resort Mr Akhtar finished by saying "We would like to thank all friends and clients of Matava and Mad Fish Dive Centre past and present who have contributed to the success of our eco resort and we look forward to exciting times ahead."

Mud Parties and Sacred Nuts
Spa Menus Vamp it Up with Creative New Treatments from Coast to Coast
by Sylvie Greil

Miami Mojito Scrub minus hang-over in Miami
With spas proliferating like blogs and the nation’s belly fat, there’s a need for bigger and better, nonpareil and ne plus ultra to draw new/more/different customers. From strange and sacred nuts you’ve never heard of to inner-child-pleasing mud parties, the following spas have come up with creative ways to beat the competition.

Kara Spa in Los Angeles invites you to give your thumbs and wrists a break from your Blackberry and indulge in the real (juicy) deal. The thirty-minute “Blackberry Balm Hand Massage” treatment combines stress- and strain-relieving acupressure techniques with soothing rocks and a special “Blackberry Balm” to undo the damage caused by being enslaved to your hand-held communication devices. Cost is $90.

The Sports Club/LA Miami at the Four Seasons Hotel Miami cashes in on the Mojito craze (still going strong) with its signature Miami Mojito Scrub and Massage, designed to stimulate circulation, detoxify the skin and open the sinuses. Afterward, head to the poolside open-air lounge for a Champagne-based bubbly mojito. Fifty- and eighty-minute versions are available for $125 and $185.

The Spa at The Westin Maui on Maui’s Kaanapali Beach has seen a significant rise in the number of men visiting the spa and has adjusted its menu accordingly. The Heavenly Golfer’s Massage addresses the issue of repetitive activity and includes a volcanic scrub. Cost is $130 for 50 minutes. There’s also a Volcanic Men’s Pedicure employing the power of volcanic clay.

Paint Party at the Well in Palm Springs

In Palm Springs, at The Well Spa at Miramonte Resort & Spa, you do it yourself. “More and more guests are looking for fun and different things to do … with their significant others… and with their best friends,” said Jennifer Di Francisco, the spa’s director. Thus they came up with the Pittura Festa painting party treatment, where you get to play with colorful, therapeutic mud such as red Sedona clay. Wash it down with a Swiss shower or a cocktail.

The Painting Party for Two is 45 minutes for $155 or 90 minutes for $325 includes massage).

Sun-worshippers in Las Vegas can baby their precious hides at Spa Mandalay via the Dilo Repair treatment. The Dilo nut hails from Fiji's scared Dilo trees, or "trees of a thousand virtues." Fiji nut oils, Aloe Vera and coconut oil are the other stars in this application created to heal the skin from sun exposure, inflammation and scarring. Twenty-five minutes for $75.

Also in Vegas, Stephanie Doud, the new Spa Director Stephanie Doud of Hibiscus Spa at the Westin Casuarina Las Vegas Hotel, Casino &Spa, has designed an Ice Cream Pedicure. It begins with a Chocolate, Strawberry or Vanilla Sugar Scrub exfoliation, followed with a delish marshmallow mask and moisturizing vanilla body icing and nail polish. Fifty minutes for $95.
